How do marriage licenses work

Fill out and sign the application and return it with your payment to the Recording office at the address below. Please be sure to allow at least three weeks before the ceremony to process the application.

On approval we will send your license to you, normally within three 3 days of receipt. The issued license becomes effective in three 3 days. You have 60 days to have a ceremony performed anywhere in Oregon, and this deadline cannot be extended. Your officiant will need to sign the license and return it to the county within five 5 working days.

Marriage license fees are not refundable. If you do not use the license in the time frame allowed, you will lose your fees and must purchase a new license.

If you did not pre-order a certified copy of your marriage license when the license was issued, you must request a certified copy in writing.
