I love that I can get a great cookbook and a great diet book all in one with yummy, filling recipes. Other great things in the book include an expose, if you will, of common foods with hidden sugars and some smart alternatives. I had no idea that I was consuming as much sugar as I have been. Cruise doesn't encourage indulging in fats and proteins.
In fact, more than once he asks the rhetorical, "Does this mean you can eat a whole cow and ten sticks of butter? You need to use common sense.
The recipes look and sound delicious. The portions are filling. It's a great way for people who fear a major lifestyle change to start taking control of their health. I guess that I should add that even though I've only just read this book, I've incorporated most of the principles for a while now because of other books I've read , and I have seen wonderful results for myself with weight loss and health. As a stay-at-home mom of 4 aaaahhhh!
By incorporating many of the principles that are in this book and in other health programs , I've been able to recently lose a good deal of weight, increase my energy levels, and when I stay disciplined enough to limit my sugars avoid systemic yeast overgrowth a personal plague I've faced.

I also do not care for food lists that are listed in categories. In my opinion, it is easier to find a particular food if it is listed in alphabetical order instead of categories.

I agree with others that it is very brand heavy, but you don't have to use those brands to follow this way of eating. You want the lowest sugar and the lowest carbs possible. I followed this plan for 4 months and lost less than 5 lbs but my clothes did feel looser. It constipated me something awful even with using the probiotics and metamucil, etc. The Belly Fat Cure did not work for me but I gave it a 4 star rating anyway because I learned a lot from reading it and have incorporated parts of it into my life.

I was shocked to learn, or maybe just blind to the obvious fact, that the majority of foods contain crazy amounts of sugar. Most of which is not naturally occurring, it is added. Even in my beloved milk, oh how i loves me some milk!
I learned about healthy sugar alternatives which can be used in baking and how to read those food labels a little more clearly when it comes to sugar and carbs. How did we ever live without those? I agree with other reviews that it is unnecessary to make specialty store purchases to follow this diet though book does have an odd way of suggesting very specific branded items - saying for example to eat a specific brand of bread rather than: a bread with x of sugar and carb grams such as given brand making one wonder whether there are product endorsements happening.
