Better now when quieter but I am not a big city person and found it hard to get around. We found some eateries K Road but probably need to travel around Queen St for good variety. Terrible lack of road names which led to us losing our way. I am not sure I would come again. I prefer Wellington. Hotel was ok though. There is a nice feeling of respect for the parks and all the different features around the place. Traffic is an issue but I think this is a more general global phenomenon which is really being addressed by those opting for bike, walking, public transport etc. All in all it seems to be on a good trajectory. I was working, so didn't do anything else much. Good range of eateries around the apartment though, and a choice of 3 supermarkets. For tourists, it is really close to Rainbows End, and the motorways, so easy to get anywhere else.
If you have an early flight this is a great place to stay the night before, as it it part of the Yellow Bus' route and the hotel gives you a voucher to ride and it's earlier on the route so you'll definitely have space for your luggage.
You get free transportation from the airport if you're arriving, but there's nothing in the area so I don't see why you wouldn't just go all the way into downtown Auckland. The bedroom and beds were acceptable, but nothing special and perhaps a tad small. Super comfortable and spacious room. I ended up staying here when the Budget ibis was a total mess.
Crowne Plaza was worth the extra money, even though overall the price was totally fair. I like that they had guest laundry which I took advantage of, and generally the place was very accommodating. The location was fantastic and it was a quick walk to Queens Wharf from our ship. Loved the decor and found this apartment fantastic value for such a great location.
